Charles MESHACK was awarded by the French Republic Human Rights Prize 2020 [fr]
This Prize, created in 1988, is awarded in recognition and support for the completion of individual or collective projects carried out in the field, to promote and protect human rights. This year is the 33rd Edition of the Prize and the French National Consultative Commission on Human Rights (CNCDH) has selected two themes: the right to health and the fight against exclusion and defense of the environment and biodiversity.
Charles MESHACK, Executive Director of the Tanzanian Forest Conservation Group is one of the only five winners worldwide.
This award enlightens Charles MESHACK excellent and committed work, conserving and restoring the Eastern Arc Mountains and Coastal Forests, two biodiversity hotspots, in Tanzania. Last year, Tanzania was ranked at the 5th position of highest annual forest lost worldwide.
