H.E. Ambassador Frédéric CLAVIER met the Tanzanian Vice-President H.E. Samia SULUHU HASSAN [fr]
H.E. Ambassador Frédéric CLAVIER met the Tanzanian Vice-President H.E. Samia SULUHU HASSAN. This meeting was the occasion for the Ambassador to present her the development projects currently being carried out by France in Tanzania, especially to provide water and sanitation, but also to energy.
Since 2008, AFD has provided 800,000 people with drinking water and 180,000 with sanitation in rural and urban areas, through the financing of many projects. Concerning the energy, 700 km of power lines serving 150,000 people have been financed by AFD.
In addition, this meeting made it possible to discuss prospects for future projects in the sectors of agriculture, agroecology, protection of animal species and protected areas, as well as the fight against deforestation. The Vice-President welcomed very positively the work of France on all these subjects.
The Ambassador also had the opportunity to discuss the issues of gender equality women empowerment in Tanzania. He emphasized that this is one of the priorities of France’s international policy. Their ability to access education, training or bank loans is crucial for the future development of the country. This subject is a constant concern of France in the projects it supports in Tanzania. The DEFI project (Girls’ Equality Rights), which began in May 2019 in Dodoma and four other regions, has improved the access to the justice for women victims of gender-based violence, and contributed to sensitive the Tanzanian society to this subject.
