Tanzanian-French "Sustainable cities" day [fr]

On Tuesday, October 9th 2019, the Embassy of France, the French Developement Agency (AFD) and the Tanzanian think-tank REPOA co-organized the “Tanzanian-French Sustainable cities day” with the Vice-President as guest of honor. This conference took place in the framework of the Africa-France Summit which will take place from 4th to the 6th June 2020, in Bordeaux – France. In accordance with priorities of the French President, Emmanuel MACRON, France is committed to support the development of sustainable cities in Africa.

I am quite confident that African countries and Tanzania, in particular, will seize the fantastic opportunities to find innovative and sustainable solutions to the benefit of the future generations. The objective of this conference was to promote key solutions to develop sustainable cities in Africa. Thereby, this event has gathered many experts to identify and imagine sustainable solutions about the cities of future.

To that effect, 5 panels took place during the conference: 1 - Integrated approach to sustainable cities; 2 - Water, sanitation and treatment of solid waste; 3 - Mobility, transport and infrastructure; 4 - Peri-urban agriculture; 5 - Energy, access and efficiency.

The Embassy of France was honored to count on the presence of many personalities of the Tanzanian government: His Hon. Georges SIMBACHAWANE - Minister of State of Environment and Union affairs, Hon. Selemani S. JAFO – Minister of State for local government and regional administration. The Mayor of Dodoma, Pr. Davis G. MWAMFUPE was also present.

Furthermore, the French Embassy is thankful to all the panelists from the public, private, academic and NGO sectors who accepted to share their knowledge for this conference.
The French Embassy hopes that these rich exchanges will bring concrete achievements in Tanzanian cities; and renews its full support to the Tanzanian authorities to succeed in this great challenge of tomorrow.
