Visit to Tanzania of Mrs. Annick Girardin, Minister of State for Development and Francophony - ( 8th to 9th April )
The purpose of the Minister’s visit is to talk about climate change issues in the perspective of the forthcoming 2015 Climate Conference that will be held in December in Paris
The Minister of State has been received by the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr Mohammed Gharib Bilal and discussed the climate change negotiations, the two countries political priorities, the two countries are actively involved in issues related to multilateral negotiations.
In the course of the Minister Girardin’s visit, she met the key players of the Tanzanian civil society who are concerned with the issues related to climate change and climate negotiations.
A roundtable meeting was organised at the French Embassy which was attended by academicians, NGO Representatives and senior journalists.
The participants hailed the initiative of the Minister of State to meet with the Tanzanian civil society, and especially those of developing countries who are mostly affected by climate disruptions.
This roundtable was followed by a press conference addressed by Mrs. Girardin herself, the platform gave her the opportunity to highlight the four priorities of the French Presidency of the Paris Climate Conference being:
• sign an ambitious and universally-binding climate agreement in December, in Paris ;
• the desire to obtain from each country’s national determined contributions with national efforts before COP21 ;
• Financing climate change solutions;
• The establishment of an “Agenda of Solutions”: that will show "concrete answers " so that each delegation could later on furnish information to their respective countries, its people, its farmers, after finishing the COP21: “ this agreement will be beneficial to your countries” emphasized Minister Girardin.
